Mahalo for attending our spring mixer

On May 24, AAJA Hawai‘i had a successful Spring mixer at 1938 Indochine restaurant in Honolulu. We had a large turnout which included journalism veterans like former KHON anchor Barbara Tanabe, former KITV news director Janice Gin and former KHON reporter Nestor Garcia.

We were also happy to recognize chapter member Heidi Chang as the AAJA national winner for excellence in audio storytelling and Iolani’s Devin Panalal, this year’s Hawaii high school journalist of the year. Vice President Jill Kumamoto came up with a fun game which focused on organization and communication, plus we gave out some great raffle prizes. KHON’s Alina Lee was once again the big winner taking home two tenth row tickets to the upcoming Carrie Underwood concert.

We raised several hundred dollars for our chapter, which included selling out our supply of AAJA Hawai‘i magnets. We have ordered more magnets and will soon have AAJA Hawai‘i T-shirts available for sale.

Mahalo to everyone who came out and supported! We plan to hold our next mixer following the national convention in Austin. I hope to see you then!
