AAJA Hawaii Chapter Board Meeting
January 29, 2017
11 a.m.

Call to Order: 11:10 am

Attendance: Linda Dela Cruz, Jason Ubay, Kristen Wong, Wes Nakama

Approval of the minutes: Minutes were approved by the board at today’s meeting.

President’s Report: Please renew your membership. Molly Solomon has left for Oregon. We missed Chinese New Year but we should have a mixer. Pau Hana event at Amuse Bar. Will inquire after meeting. Wes suggested philly cheesesteaks to celebrate upcoming convention. Please help call lapsed members and invite to event. Possibly Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Chapter provides food, people get their own drinks. If you’re a member it’s free or if non-member, $5.

Old Business: 30th anniversary event. Linda needs to call Sandee to see when she’s available. We’d like to have the event before April 9. Kristen did a draft of the program and flier.

New Business: Craig Gima and Kent Nishimura are still admins. Wes suggested that we stick to board members or officers as admins. Wes will tell Craig we’re removing him. Jason will tell Kent we’re removing him. Linda to tell Noelle about the anniversary event.

Next meeting: Sunday before the mixer.

National Representative’s Report: AAJA National joined 60 other organizations in requesting a meeting with President Trump and Vice President Pence to discuss media access to government officials and the White House. Spring Advisory Board Meeting is March 10-11 in Philadelphia at the Loews convention hotel. Wes estimates staying two nights.
EOP still available to register. New AAJA president: Yvonne Leow. Wes to be reimbursed for his travel expenses from last year. Board voted on New Year’s Eve.
Wes will try to fly standby this year. We’ve never had the convention in Philadelphia before. Philadelphia has a small chapter with members from remote locations. National encourages advisory board members to stay in the hotel rooms to help count toward the booking for the convention.
